“Stop staring at me, teme!” Naruto hated it when Sasuke stared at him when he was eating.

Sasuke rolled his eyes and turned his head to look at the television, “You really should eat healthier, considering your…condition.”

Naruto growled in response, his mouth full of noodles. Once he slurped them down he chided back, “A condition you put me in.”

“Tch.”

With no further response from Sasuke, Naruto considered that a win and continued to eat his ramen in peace. It wasn’t like him eating ramen was a strange thing. On the contrary, it was usually his go-to lunch. But since they’d found out Naruto was pregnant Sasuke had started being a lot more judgmental over Naruto’s diet, trying to shove fruits and vegetables down his throat at any opportunity to try and offset the copious amounts of ramen he ate. It was a behavior Naruto found increasingly annoying. He hadn’t expected Sasuke to ever be this naggy.

Then again, it wasn’t like he’d expected any of this to happen. How could he? When he and Sasuke had started dating over a year ago, they never even considered the possibility that Naruto was capable of such a thing. So when Naruto threw up every morning for a week straight only a month or so after their honeymoon, they were understandably perplexed. An even more confused Sakura was the one who had to break the news to them after a quick trip to the hospital.

The first question on everyone’s mind was, of course, how the hell this was even possible? The answer came from Kurama, who was quite amused by the entire situation. Being a jinchuriki to the nine-tailed fox had some unintended side effects, and since all previous jinchurikis had been female this was a side effect that had been entirely unknown until this point. It was the same side effect that made Naruto so adept at creating his trademark sexy jutsu. His gender wasn’t exactly fixed, the way most people would strictly define themselves as male or female. While his anatomy was male for the most part, there was a bit of flexibility there. Unfortunately, he had little control over that flexibility, as he discovered the hard way, but Kurama had gleefully saw fit to experiment with him as he pleased once he’d figured it out. Naruto wasn’t quick to forgive him, but once he warmed up to the idea he decided what Kurama had done was not the worst thing in the world.

The second question, one that plagued Naruto and Sasuke’s minds every day, were they ready for this? They had only been married a few months now, and already they were being thrust into parenthood before they could so much as finish their honeymoon. Naruto assumed he was the more anxious, especially since he and Sasuke still had their ups and downs and Naruto was usually the one to be offended by Sasuke’s snide remarks first. He worried that he and Sasuke weren’t ready for this next step in their relationship, let alone ready for parenting children.

His greatest fear, one that drowned him in constant nightmares, was that Sasuke would leave him…again. Not in a relationship sense, but in a very literal sense. While Sasuke had been living in the village again for almost two years now, Sasuke had tried to leave about four months into their relationship. It wasn’t that he was seeking power or revenge again, but his guilt and anxiety over the pain he’d put Naruto through and the discomfort he felt living in the same village that sentenced his clan to death led him to conclude that leaving was best for himself and Naruto. Of course, Naruto would have none of that. With his tailed-beast mode he was easily able to catch up to Sasuke.

“There’s nowhere you can go where I won’t follow, Sasuke. I know it’s hard being in the village, but nothing will change if we just walk away from it. Forget about the fact that you’re in the village, just focus on me. I’m your home. Together we can make the village a home to you again, a place where no one would ever have to go through what you did. But I need you to do that. I need you to trust me, to be by my side and work with me towards making that future a reality.”

Sasuke returned, but Naruto was still deeply hurt that Sasuke had harbored such doubts for so long and hadn’t talked to him about them. They were both new to this whole relationship thing at the time, but Naruto knew that things weren’t going to work if there was no communication, so he made it his mission to break through Sasuke’s walls, one by one, no matter what.

But now here they were, with Naruto still trying to break down those walls while fighting off his own out-of-whack hormones. He placed his empty ramen bowl on the coffee table and looked over at Sasuke, who was still focused on the TV, something he only ever really did when he was deep in thought. Naruto felt bad about trying to guilt-trip Sasuke before, so he scooched over to him and rested his head on his shoulder, “It’s not your fault…”

Sasuke’s gaze shifted over to him. His gaze softened, “Dobe, we’re both at least a little responsible. But I get what you mean.” He smirked, “Even if it were all my fault, it’s not such a bad thing I suppose.”

Naruto smiled, “No, it’s not.” He looked down at his swollen belly and rested his hand on it.

Sasuke followed Naruto’s gaze and chuckled, “Our happy little accidents.”

“Our happy little miracles. Asshole.” Naruto stuck his tongue out at his husband. Maybe they weren’t ready for this, but since when were they ready for anything life threw at them? Whatever the case, Naruto was going to stick it through, especially since he had Sasuke. With Sasuke by his side, he felt like he could take on anything, and it was a feeling he was still overjoyed to be experiencing again.
